Adopt a persimmon tree from the farm "El Palmar Viejo" in Alcolea del Río (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of organic persimmons and oranges at home. Mari Carmen will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt a persimmon tree from our farm in Alcolea del Río (Spain). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 2017. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your persimmon tree. The persimmon is the fruit produced by the tree of the same name. It's a tropical tree native to some Asian countries such as Japan and China that has been cultivated since the eight century, although it didn't reach Europe until the end of the nineteenth century. Fortunately, our farm has an orange grove from which we would like to send you a taste of the harvest. The orange variety that we offer you, Navelina, is originally from California and belongs to the Navel group, which is named after the growth at the bottom of the fruit that resembles a human navel. In our region, the valley of the River Guadalquivir, there are favourable climate and soil conditions for growing both fruits, such as the many hours of sunshine per year and the thermal contrasts of the region. This makes us one of the top orange-producing areas. Both the orange and the persimmon trees are grown according to organic farming techniques. That said, my father-in-law has been carrying out sustainable agricultural practices all his life, following the teachings of his own father and grandfather, such as using organic fertilisers, tilling the land, pulling up weeds by hand, and taking advantage of natural pollinators like bees. Your adoption is 7 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your persimmon tree produces an average of 24kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. Shipping format: __ 4kg box of organic persimmons and 5kg of organic oranges__ * Bright red persimmon variety “Rojo Brillante”: flattened oval shape, reddish-orange skin and pulp, sweet taste * Navelina orange: oval, slightly protruding navel, very juicy, easy to peel, balanced flavour between acid and sweet, perfect for eating as table oranges or for making fresh juice * We send the persimmons hard, firm and slightly bitter, so you can eat them like apples; as the days go by, the persimmons will become softer and sweeter * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2017 * Picked the day before shipment at their optimal point of ripeness and shipped in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * One kilo of persimmons contains between 5 and 7 fruits (the box contains between 20 and 28 fruits depending on the size) * One kilo of oranges contains between 5 and 6 fruits (the box contains between 25 and 30 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 10 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)
