The project

Adopt a vegetable plot from the "El Bosque del Batán" farm in Periana (Spain) and receive your mediterranean veggie box at home. Ana will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a vegetable plot from our farm in Periana (Spain) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are already in the process of converting and expect to be officially certified by 2025. The pepper is a plant that originally comes from the northwestern part of South America and arrived in Europe thanks to Christopher Columbus. It first became popular in Spain, where in the sixteenth century it was already being widely used in kitchens. It belongs to the Solanaceae family, which includes other plants such as potatoes and tomatoes. It's a perennial herbaceous plant that is usually grown as an annual or a biennial. We started growing it this year and we'll plant it again in the next campaign, because the summer plants can't withstand the cold winters in our area. Our variety, the alicum, is part of the sweet pepper family, also known as the Italian pepper. The box also includes aubergines, from the Solanaceae family. The ideal season for these two products is summer, as they need quite a few hours of daylight. In our case, we grow them outdoors when the springtime temperatures are right on our traditional, diverse and ecologically valuable farm. We do this according to organic farming guidelines to achieve quality products and protect our privileged natural environment. We also integrate vegetable crops into the ancient olive grove, thereby adding value to inland agriculture. Your vegetable plot produces an average of 2kg of mediterranean veggie box each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 1 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2 kg box of mixed vegetables__ 1 x 0,7kg of __peppers__ 1 x 1,3 kg of __aubergines__ * Alicum pepper: long, horn-shaped fruit; medium size; smooth green skin; sweet flavour with fine walls; small white seeds * Mulata Aubergines: cylindrical-oblong shape; medium size; smooth skin; black to purple colour on the outside and white on the inside; mild and somewhat bitter taste (including the skin); firm-spongy pulp; small edible seeds * Field cropping * Farming in conversion to Organic Farming since 2022 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo of peppers contains between 12 and 18 pieces * One kilo of aubergines contains between 3 and 5 pieces * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 10 days in good condition

When will you receive it?

The vegetable garden thrives in summer. These plants grow in the warm weather, and you can consume them with the guarantee of knowing that they are seasonal products. Harvest begins in July and can last until September.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
