Adopt an orange tree from the farm "Doña Ana" in Lorca (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of oranges and organic lemons at home. María Luisa will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt an orange tree from our farm in Lorca (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2022. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your orange tree. Our orange trees were planted in 2002 and have been organically cultivated since 2018. The average life of an orange tree should be at least 30 years, so they are in their best productive years. An orange tree of this age, approximately 20 years old, grown in organic farming produces an average of 50 - 60kg of fruit per year. The trees up for adoption are of the Valencia variety, which is a late variety among Mediterranean citrus fruits. They are well adapted to our area and are of high organoleptic quality with good flavour and juice content. We trust a traditional variety to be able to offer you "the oranges of a lifetime". Your lemons grow on the lemon trees of our friend Paco at Finca Villa Berta. These lemon trees were planted in 2017, and in 2020 was their first harvest. There are two varieties: Eureka and Verna. The lemons change color from greenish yellow at the beginning of the season to intense yellow when ripe. Flowering takes place almost all year round, often with peaks in mid-spring and late summer. The Verna variety is very typical in the Murcia region and very popular because, due to its thick skin, the lemons can withstand the heat of summer without dehydrating. The orange and lemon trees are a little taller than a person with a glossy green foliage that they keep all year round. Being a late variety, the best time to enjoy them is from April to May, since you can observe, on the same tree, ripe fruit and blossoms that are preparing the next harvest. During the blossoming period, it is a delight to walk around the farm when the orange blossom scent fills the surroundings with that characteristic sweet smell. On the tree, we have fruits of all sizes. The largest and smallest, along with those that are not suitable for shipping, are destined for juicing. The productive life of an orange tree is around 30-35 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your orange tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. An orange tree from our farm produces an average of 60kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __Box with 8kg of organic oranges and 2kg of organic lemons__ * Oranges Valencia (April - May): slightly smaller and less intense in color, but have a high juice content * Lemon Verna (April - July): elongated shape, medium to large size, almost seedless and low acidity, natural source of vitamin C, cultivated at Finca Villa Berta of our friend Paco, packaged in 100% compostable cellulose mesh * Organic farming, oranges certified by the European Organic Farming seal since 2022 and lemons since 2017 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo of oranges contains between 4 and 6 fruits * One kilo of lemons contains between 6 and 10 fruits * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 15 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) * You'll see that the first lemons of the season may have a greenish hue, but over the weeks they'll take on the typical yellow tone of this variety
When will you receive it?
You will receive your oranges and lemons from April to the middle or end of May. Defining the beginning and end of each season is complicated. Every year the season will be different due to the weather conditions. Hence, one year's harvest might start a little earlier or there is so much of it that we can extend the harvesting period. But maybe next year the production will be small and we will run out of fruits earlier. Please consider these dates to be estimates. From mid-April you will receive Valencia oranges and Verna lemons. The degree of sourness decreases from the beginning to the end of the harvest season for each variety.
