The project

Adopt a grapefruit tree from the farm "Domaines De La Taste" in Tallone (France) and receive your organic pink grapefruits PGI Corsica at home. Loïc will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you have received your organic pink grapefruits PGI Corsica and enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a grapefruit tree from our farm in Tallone (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2016. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your grapefruit tree. The grapefruit trees in our orchard produce organic pink grapefruits of the “Star Ruby” variety, which was introduced to Corsica in the 1990s. The pink grapefruit, or *Citrus paradisi*, comes from a cross between the yellow grapefruit and the orange. This fruit has a yellow skin, which may have a red-orange spot on the surface, and flesh in shades from pink to red. The pink grapefruit is one of the few seedless citrus fruits. It is a self-incompatible hybrid, in other words sterile. Pink grapefruits are therefore basically propagated by grafting. New varieties can be produced through natural mutation or by cross-fertilisation with another citrus fruit, which will produce seeded grapefruits. Grapefruit trees bloom in spring. When the fruits appear in June, we spray the trees with natural clay to protect them from the sun. The fruits could actually catch “sunburn”, which would mark them with spots when ripe. Pink grapefruits are generally harvested from early January to late May, but this can vary depending on the year and climate. Located between sea and mountains on the eastern plain of Haute Corse, our farm benefits from exceptional climatic conditions – a temperate climate, along with higher rainfall and humidity than other Mediterranean cultivation regions. Our pink grapefruits are grown in accordance with European Union regulations on Organic Farming. Our supervisory authority is Ecocert. We also operate with Global GAP certification so as to guarantee food safety and sustainable development at the farm. Your adoption is 21 years old and its productive life is around 100 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your grapefruit tree produces an average of 18kg of organic pink grapefruits PGI Corsica each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 3 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __4kg box of organic pink grapefruits Corsica__ * “Star Ruby” Corsica: medium-sized, seedless pink grapefruit; the freshness of our pink grapefruit makes it tasty and attractive, while at the same time juicy, sweet and moderately tart * Pink grapefruit can either be enjoyed fresh or in salads or jams * The fruits’ skin may be covered with a light white dust: these are residues of treatment with natural clay that protects our pink grapefruits from “sunburn” during the months of intense sunshine * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2016 * They are not treated with wax or preservatives (you can use the peel) * We do not store fruits in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * Our farm is not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 4 fruits (the box contains between 18 and 24 fruits, depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last up to 15 days in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

When will you receive it?

Pink grapefruits are generally harvested from early December to late May, but this can vary depending on the year and climate. You will receive them between December and June.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
