Charlélie will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt 40m² of an einkorn wheat plot from our farm in Montlaur-en-Diois (France). Cultivation certified organic by the European Union since 1996. There is an exceptional cereal in Haute Provence: Einkorn wheat from Haute Provence. Cultivated for millennia, this cereal is being revived in a naturally protected and sunny mid-mountain environment, where the producers take the greatest care using a crop rotation system in a precise and restricted geographical area. The quality of the land and the producers’ know-how ensure a cereal of exceptional quality with high nutritional value. The cereal is highly resistant to the cold and has a long growth cycle, so we prepare the plots and sow in autumn to let it develop and reach maturity in August. It grows very well in mountainous areas, in poor soils, making it possible to avoid additional fertilisers and therefore phytosanitary treatment. Once harvested, the grain is threshed and sent to our huller/miller service provider approved by the Einkorn wheat Syndicate which checks, sorts and hulls or mills the small spelt. Since 2007, the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) label guarantees you a product grown according to strict specifications and in a restricted mountain area, in order to maintain exceptional quality for consumption. Each einkorn wheat plot produces an average of 4kg of organic einkorn wheat products PGI Haute Provence per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: 2 x __organic einkorn wheat PGI Haute Provence__, hulled (1kg kraft bags) 1 x __organic einkorn wheat PGI Haute Provence flour __(1kg kraft bag) For cooking, __the grains__ must be soaked for 12 to 24 hours before being cooked in boiling water (with vegetable broth etc.) for about 35 minutes. It is eaten hot with vegetables, lamb, or traditionally in soup. It can also be eaten cold in a salad. __The ivory-coloured flour__ is smoother and allows better leavening than wheat flour, so you can make bread or pastries with a very low level of gluten. These products can be stored in a dry place, protected from light and at room temperature. The BBD of the hulled Einkorn is 6 months after hulling, so its optimum use will be up to the end of February of the year following receipt. The flour can be kept for 9 months after milling, i.e. optimum use up to May of the year following receipt.
When will you receive it?
The harvest takes place in August but we need a full month to prepare and pack it. The first shipments can be dispatched in mid-September.
