The project

Adopt vines from the farm "Domaine Bastide Jourdan" in Bollène (France) and receive your harvest in the form of organic red wine Cuvée Alexandre PGI Côtes de Rhône at home. Alexandre will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption. This wine was tasted by professional wine tasters that collaborate with CrowdFarming and received __86__ out of 100 possible points.

What do you adopt?

You adopt vines from our farm in Bollène (France). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2014. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. The Grenache is a black grape originally from Spain, from the province of Aragon more precisely. Cultivated since the Middle Ages, it is, therefore, an old variety, which has adapted surprisingly well on the Provençal coasts and elsewhere. Nowadays, it is one of the most cultivated grape varieties in the world. We chose to cultivate it because it brings strength to the wines, as well as notes of cocoa and coffee. It is also the grape variety that must be included in the composition of wines in the Côte du Rhône appellation (more information below). The grapes from the vines you adopt are used to make red wine, but other Grenache vines are used to make rosé. For the vinification of the 'Cuvée Alexandre', we carry out a traditional fermentation in vats, with a marc cap. A marc cap is made up of all the physical elements of the grape (skin, stalk and seeds). Twice a day, we run the grape juice through this marc cap, which allows the juice to soak up whatever is in that layer. This is called 'reassembly'. Fermentation releases a lot of heat, and a good vinification must be carried out at between 15°C and 30°C so that the freshness of the fruits is preserved. This is why it is important to control the temperature. For this, we use a water belt system, which circulates around the tanks. Your adoption is 24 years old and its productive life is around 50 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your vines produce an average of 3.6kg of organic grapes each season. With this amount we can produce around 2.25l of organic red wine Cuvée Alexandre PGI Côtes de Rhône.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 3 x __red wine “Cuvée Alexandre” 2019__ (0,75l, bottle) Regarding the wine, we can distinguish its origin and have clues about their production by looking at the appellation. The Alexandre cuvée is a cuvée with the Côtes du Rhône appellation. One of the criteria for having this appellation is, of course, a geographic criterion. The crops must be located on the right and left banks of the Rhône, between Avignon and Vienne. Another notable criterion is the percentage of grape varieties in the assembly of the wine. For red and rosé wine, there must be at least 40% Grenache. To this main grape variety, we can add other main grape varieties (Syrah and/or Mourvèdre) and secondary grape varieties (Carignan and Cinsault for our vineyard). These secondary grape varieties, however, must not exceed 30%. It is a fruity, light and easy-drinking wine. Notes of spices emerge and give it strength. It will go very well with simple dishes. You can serve it slightly chilled in summer (for recent vintages). This wine can be aged for 3 to 7 years. Store the bottles in a dark place, at a temperature of between 12°C and 18°C. To obtain the technical data and the detailed results of the official tasting done by professional wine tasters in collaboration with CrowdFarming of this wine you can download the technical data sheet that you can find in the "Additional analyses" section.

When will you receive it?

The grapes are harvested at the end of August and throughout September (depending on the year and the grape variety). As it takes some time to make wine, the wine you receive was already harvested one or more years ago, depending on the vintage for the vine you adopt.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
