The project

Adopt vines from the farm "Château de la Grave" in Bourg (France) and receive your harvest in the form of red wines Caractère and Les Choses Autrement, PDO Côtes-de-Bourg at home. Lou will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption. These wines were tasted by professional wine tasters that collaborate with CrowdFarming and received on average __84.5__ out of 100 possible points.

What do you adopt?

You adopt vines cultivated under the European Union's Organic Farming regulations. We are in the process of converting and hope to get certified in 2023. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your vines. Adopt six Merlot vines for producing red wine, cultivated on the edge of the Gironde estuary in Bordeaux, and receive six bottles in return: three bottles of our historic wine - Château de la Grave Caractère Caractère, and three bottles from the collection Le Goût des Choses - Les Choses Autrement. The Merlot vines you are adopting come from a plot of vines planted in 2000 on a beautiful hillside. Merlot is our main grape variety: its favourite terroir is located on the right bank of Bordeaux on cool clay-limestone soils. It is an early variety sensitive to spring frosts and requiring a mild and temperate climate like ours. Dark and dense in colour with aromas of red (strawberry, raspberry, currant, cherry) and black fruits (blackcurrant), Merlot transforms during ageing to give way to notes of prunes, undergrowth and spices. It allows us to create well-rounded, powerful wines that are rich in aroma and colour. As they age, the vines produce fewer clusters in quantity, but they have a remarkable quality. This gives the wine power, structure and great complexity that will reveal itself after a few years of ageing. On average, a bunch of Merlot grapes weighs 150 grams. By keeping to a moderate size (8 bunches per vine), the production from a vine is equivalent to a bottle of wine. This year, you will receive 3 bottles from the Le Goût des Choses collection. We have chosen for you this year the wine “Les Choses Autrement”. It is a red wine made up of 100% Merlot that we have specially vinified to offer you a new taste experience. You will discover a nice fruity wine supported by a fine and elegant tannic structure as well as a beautiful freshness. It is a wine ready to drink now. The productive life of vines is around 60 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your vines die, we will replace them with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Each vines bears an average of 4.5l of red wines Caractère and Les Choses Autrement, PDO Côtes-de-Bourg per season.

What will you receive?

Each season we will send you a box with: 3 x __red wine Château de la Grave Caractêre 2019__ (0.75l, bottle) 3 x __red wines Les Choses Autrement 2019__ (0.75l, bottle) This season, we will send you a mixed box of 6 bottles of red wine that you can taste this autumn. The best time to try our red wines is at the table, during a good meal with family or friends. The __Caractêre__ is a blended wine (80% Merlot - 20% Cabernet sauvignon) in which the Merlot expresses a unique terroir: dark colour, aromas of blueberry and blackcurrant, spices, pepper... The palate is rich and velvety, supported by supple tannins and a beautiful roasted woody note that leaves a pleasant memory of a very harmonious and devilishly indulgent wine. Created when I arrived in 2018, "le Goût des Choses" is a collection of anecdotes about wine, a rare and unique wine production. Each wine is an adventure, an original expression of the terroir or the grape variety, an exploration of new tastes thanks to new techniques being discovered, the use of original working methods or a return to forgotten ancestral know-how. This year, I am offering __Les Choses Autrement__. It is a red wine based on Merlot. This wine is a very personal expression of Merlot grapes resulting from two weeks of maceration with a very gentle extraction by infusion of the marc cap on a qualitative vintage for red wines that are both concentrated and delicate with silky tannins and fresher aromas. The harvest takes place around mid-September. After the harvest, our wines ferment until December. Then comes the critical moment of the blending when everything is decided. This point is why each vintage is different. Finally, we end with the ageing in French oak barrels, which lasts one year on average. To fully appreciate our red wines, I advise you to drink them at 18°C, neither too cold nor too hot, and to open the bottle 1 to 2 hours in advance to let the wine breathe and reveal all its potential to you. To obtain the technical data and the detailed results of the official tasting done by professional wine tasters in collaboration with CrowdFarming of this wine you can download the technical data sheet that you can find in the "Additional analyses" section.

When will you receive it?

You will receive your package in November, just before winter. The harvest takes place in September, with the date varying depending on the ripeness of the grapes. Each year is unique. It is mainly the climatic conditions of spring and summer that create the difference. We usually harvest the Merlot first, then the Malbecs and Cabernets Sauvignon. The wines will be bottled about 18 months after the harvest and then stored in our cellars to age in peace before being delivered to you.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
