What do you adopt?
You adopt {publicVariety} of the Naval variety that we cultivate based on the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union and the Demeter regulations. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your orange tree. A {variety} of our farm produces an average of {masterUnitsMax} kg per season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. At the moment of adoption you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount from you tree to others. If you enjoy the __clementines__ you also have the option to adopt an orange tree from our farm. __What does the Demeter certification mean? __ Demeter is the largest certification organization for biodynamic agriculture. The biodynamic agriculture takes into consideration that during the vital processes, different and diverse sources act together that not only come from material interactions. All agricultural practices are based on activating processes that favor and enliven this natural connections. The biodynamic method is closely linked to personal interaction. The work done by the human hand when concerned with the fertility of soil, plants, seeds and propagating material, and animals, in harmony with local conditions, turns the farm into a living organism. It is important to perform certain practices at the right time that affect the live processes. In particular, among these practices is the conscious and regular use of biodynamic preparations and the consideration of cosmic rhythms in crop production. Learn more about the Demeter normative [here](http://www.demeter.es/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Normativa-de-producci%C3%B3n-DI-2018.pdf).
What will you receive?
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption Shipping format: __box of 10 kg of oranges__. Your oranges are collected first thing in the morning, we place them in a carton box and send them your way on the same day. This way you will receive them fresh, wax-free and with no post-harvest treatment. * Cultivation Method: in accordance with Organic Farming and the norms of Biodynamic Agriculture. In 2019 we initiated the administrative requirements to certify us with both the Organic and Demeter certification seals. * Average quantity per 1 kg: between 4 and 6 oranges * Beautiful and imperfect, they are perfect for juicing or eating * The skin peels easily and leaves no residues, you may use them to cook. * Plastic free packaging * Ideal storing method: in a cool and airy place, they can last between 2 to 3 weeks in good condition.
When will you receive it?
Please, check the deadline for participating in this project (deadline for adoption) below. As of this date shipments begin. You can plan all the deliveries once you completed the adoption process. The Farmer will collect your harvest on demand and just before shipment, so you will receive it fresh, not treated with wax or any skin conservation treatments. The shipment season begins in December and usually lasts until May. Depending on the month we collect the varieties that we find to be at their optimum point of ripeness: * The Navelina is an early variety that we can harvest ripe at the end of December until February. * The Lane-Late is harvested from February until April. * The Naval Powell is the latest variety, which we harvest during the month of May.
Why should you adopt?
* Learn who produces your food, how and where. Receive your food in a conscious manner. * Buy directly from the farmer. Help to generate wealth and better jobs in the rural areas. * Plan ahead and enable the Farmer to produce on demand. This way we can avoid overproduction and fight food waste. * Reward Farmers who make an effort to use environmentally-friendly packaging and cultivation techniques.

Ernesto Escribano Beltrán
I used to work many years as an architect and changed the focus of my activities in 2006 when I dedicated myself to developing projects with renewable energy: solar parks and biogas plants. During one of those projects I came into contact with organic banana farmers from the Mao and Montecristi provinces in the North of the Dominican Republic and I started by own organic banana farm. Sharing the facilities with what once were my neighbours and have today become my business partners allowed me to return to Valencia, enabled me to dedicate more time towards my family and develop organic agriculture projects. When learning about Casa Carlos in 2017 I was impressed by the beauty of the farm and its surroundings, but, above all, by the enormous potential it has for developing and implementing this project. We want to turn Casa Carlos into a reference to how, as we understand it, a modern, sustainable and socially responsible agricultural facility can and should look like: * We will promote the __regeneration and return of life to the soil__. Consequently, we will have healthy plants and trees that are resistant to pests and illnesses. Healthy trees produce healthy and high-quality fruit. We are building a team with technicians and farmers, enthusiasts convinced by cultivating in harmony with nature. In this group we are integrating people with disabilities, who receive a chance to do real work in a positive and healthy environment. * We are going to__ generate our own energy with solar panels__ in such a way that the same sun that makes our plants and fruits grow will produce the energy to move the pumps necessary for irrigation and for the teams on the farm. * We will __rehabilitate the country house__ from the 19th century, which is a protected monument. We will have space to work, accommodation and recreation. * By integrating __biodynamic agriculture, renewable energy and the rehabilitation of heritage__ we will have the necessary elements to develop a social project which will turn Casa Carlos into: An information center directed at students and senior citizens where they can learn what the future of agriculture can and should look like. A training center for organic and biodynamic agriculture. A place that hosts research programs about this type of agriculture A center for labor integration and training people with disabilities.

"When you put your heart and soul into cultivating a fruit it is very hard having to accept to harvest it prematurely and that it is denied in the last days and weeks of ripening. At this point the plant focuses all of the energy given by the sun into the fruit, which is reflected in the richness of different flavors and aromas that a tree is able to create in its fruits. For me, CrowdFarming perfectly transmits a year’s worth of work and getting the satisfaction to enable the CrowdFarmers to consume the fruit as if it had grown in their own garden. Being able to meet the people that consume our fruit and show them our project or simply having the opportunity to communicate with them directly will be a privilege that will surely result in an enrichment for everyone."

Casa Carlos
The Casa Carlos farm extends across 170 hectares and is located 40 km North-East of Valencia on a hillside that climbs a gentle slope towards the foothills of the Sierra Calderona Natural Park. 300 meters above sea level, the farm is looking South and is protected from Northern winds by its own mountains. On our farm we work following the principles and regulations of organic and biodynamic agriculture. In 2019 we started the procedures to obtain the certification of Organic Farming and Demeter. We have a great diversity of plots and crops. In the lower part, occupying 60 hectares you will find the early zone of vegetable cultivation where we are now starting a cultivation of table grapes, yellow kiwis and dragon fruit. On the remaining plots we are cultivating alfalfa to enhance the regeneration of the soil. On the middle slope we have the citrus area with 7 varieties among oranges and clementines, which occupies another 60 hectares and which contains in its interior various undiscovered mountain enclaves, home to a wide variety of native species, insects and microorganisms. Scattered along various zones, we have another 15 hectares with almond, olive and carob trees. On the upper part, the farm has a 35 hectares wide mount with a Mediterranean pine grove giving shelter to beehives with the bees that pollinate our trees. All of these conditions, a lot of sun, plenty of water, mild temperatures but with an important thermal gap between night and day, hours that are just the right amount of cold during winter, together with an enormous biodiversity and a very fertile and loamy soil make Casa Carlos an ideal place to cultivate and obtain fruits of a high quality, texture and flavour.
