The project

Adopt a grape vine from the "Cañada de Ana" farm in Alhama de Murcia (Spain) and receive your organic table grapes at home. Diego will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt a grape vine from our farm in Alhama de Murcia (Spain). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2007. Grape cultivation in Spain began with the Phoenicians. Subsequently, Hispania was one of the most important territories in the production of grapes for the Roman Empire, especially for wine production. These crops have accompanied farmers throughout the centuries up to today. Nowadays, one of the main table grape producing regions in Spain is Murcia, where we have our farm. Table grapes grow on vines. The vines are pruned, which allows the plant to grow in height by fixing it to a pole along which it grows. When the vine reaches approximately two metres, its branches and leaves are supported on wires, forming a kind of roof. This way, the grapes hang from the roof, making it easier for us to get to the crop for the application of ecological products that protect it, such as sulphur or natural pyrethrins. It also makes it easier to harvest the grapes. Between each vine we leave between 9 and 16 square metres so that a roof of branches and leaves is created between the whole crop. This provides shade that protects the grapes from the sun's rays. In addition, we protect the crop with netting to prevent possible hail storms that sometimes occur in the area from breaking the bunches of grapes. Our grapes have been grown slowly and carefully following organic farming techniques since 2007, although there are some vineyards where we took the step in 2019. Although this type of crop management means extra effort for us, we have been able to see that our farm and the vines thank us year after year. Although over the years we have grown several varieties of table grapes in Cañada de Ana, we currently grow Itumfour - a white grape, and Itumnine - a red or black grape. These varieties are the result of the research work carried out by the Murcian Society for Table Grape Research and Technology (ITUM), whose aim is to obtain productive seedless table grape varieties that are adapted to the area. Grapes from the vineyards we grow in Cañada de Ana have, on several occasions, been a part of the Alhama de Murcia Grape Fair, held in our town during the festivities in honour of the Patron Saint of the Rosary, and they have received several mentions in the "organic" section. Your adoption is 10 years old and its maximum lifespan is 15 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. Your grape vine produces an average of 24kg of organic table grapes each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __2kg box of organic table grapes__ * Itumfour (mid-August to mid-September): white seedless variety, greenish-yellow in colour with golden tones or freckles when ripe, slightly muscatel-like taste, very sweet when ripe * Itumnine (mid-August to mid-October): red seedless variety, large red berries that may turn violet, pleasant flavour * Both are crisp and firm grape varieties, resistant and not very susceptible to diseases * In the box you will receive varieties according to availability * Ideal for fresh consumption, natural, and an easy way to have fruit for dessert or a snack; also to accompany your cheese boards, sweeten your cakes or make a delicious jam * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2007 * Harvested on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * We do not store fruits in cold chambers, they go directly from the vine to your doorstep * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 10 days in good condition; they will keep longer if you keep them in an airtight container and wash them as you eat them * Avoid storing them near foods with strong smells, such as leeks or onions

When will you receive it?

We pick the fruit at the optimum time so that it arrives at your home in perfect conditions of flavour and ripeness, starting in mid-August and finishing in mid-October.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
