Adopt a pomegranate tree from the farm "Verger de Alicia" in Valencia (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of pomegranates at home. Gonzalo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.
You adopt a pomegranate tree from our farm in Valencia (Spain) that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union. We are in the process of converting and hope to get certified in 2024. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your pomegranate tree. The pomegranate, or *Punica granatum*, is a tree native to South Asia, Persia, and Afghanistan. It was highly appreciated fruit in desert areas as its thick and leathery skin would prevent it from drying out, which meant that it could be transported over long distances without impairing quality. These aspects may have made it one of the most widely grown fruits since ancient times. The deciduous tree is vigorous and productive, reaching up to six metres in height, although you can also find some shrub-like trees. Most of its branches end in the shape of a thorn, which can lead to scratches on some of its fruits. The trees blossom between May and June, covering the fields with a blanket of deep red, bell-shaped flowers. You will be adopting a pomegranate of the Mollar variety, native to our area. About 5.83 hectares of our farm are used for growing this crop, with approximately 2,200 trees. Your adoption is 7 years old and its productive life is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your adoption dies, we will replace it with no additional cost assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. Your adoption produces an average of 12.5kg of pomegranates each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with that amount. This way you will only pay for what you consume and will be able to sell any remaining harvest to others.
During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 0 boxes, which can be increased up to 0 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __2,5 kg box of pomegranates__ * Mollar (September - October): intensely sweet taste, and flattened round shape, medium size, thick seed coatings surrounded by a thin light red or pink skin, inside we find very small and soft seeds * Wonderful (October): Acidic tase, medium-large and round; very deep red colour, both inside and outside; small and semi-hard arils (seeds) * Farming in transition to organic farming since 2021 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 3 and 5 fruits (the box contains between 8 and 13 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)
When will you receive it?
Pomegranates don't ripen after harvest, so they must be picked fully ripe to ensure the best quality for consumption. The first pomegranates of the Mollar variety are picked the second week of September until October.
