You adopt 7m² of a potato field from our farm in Crostwitz (Germany). The cultivation is certified as organic by the European Union and the guidelines of the Gäa Association as of 2014. The guidelines of the Gäa Association - a private certification organisation - are the same as those for the Bioland certificate, a seal that you might be more familiar with. Therefore, we are allowed to offer our potatoes as Bioland potatoes. The potato is an herbaceous plant (*Solanum tuberosum*) that originated in the Andes and began its triumph through Europe with the discovery of America. Today, we really wouldn’t want to miss out on having them in our kitchens. The Otolia variety comes from Germany, is very robust and a popular variety for organic potato cultivation. Its larger-than-average tubers set it apart from other potato varieties. We grow Otolia for you because, in addition to its excellent taste, it can be stored for a very long time. That way you can enjoy your harvest for longer! Harvest year after harvest year, we pay equal attention to care & variety in our selection. We invest a lot of effort in the cultivation and put all our love into the care of our potato tubers. The special varieties in our potato field are carefully selected, adapted to the location, and are simply delicious. We are guided by the many aspects of organic farming and rely on an optimal and natural cultivation strategy for our potatoes. This means that our potatoes grow and thrive free of synthetic chemical fertilisers and pesticides. We support natural growth by cultivating and fertilising according to the lunar cycle. The latter is done with lactic fermented red clover, herbs, grasses, as well as the natural manure of our own cows, the Glücksrinder (“lucky cows”). Potatoes are a great product and are one of the most sought-after crops in this country. We trust that the special effort we put into our potatoes is evident in the taste, and we look forward to your feedback. Each potato field produces an average of 10kg of mainly waxy Bioland organic potatoes per season.
Each season we will send you a box with: __10 kg box of mainly waxy Bioland organic potatoes__ (loose in the box) * Otolia: tasty and above-average size, oval, juicy-yellow, predominantly waxy potato * Otolia is a great "all-purpose" potato and is perfect for everything the potato lover's heart desires - from mashed potatoes to fried potatoes, baked potatoes to the classic potato salad. It is very versatile and can be prepared peeled or washed with skin on * Organic cultivation, certified with the EU organic seal and Bioland since 2014, in conversion to biodynamic, expected certification in 2022 * Lovingly sorted by hand and packed in a cardboard box without plastic * The box includes some extra potatoes, in case some of them arrive damaged * Potatoes are a purely natural product that can vary in shape, colour, weight, or size from tuber to tuber * A kilo contains between 6 - 10 potatoes (in a box you will find between 60 and 100 pieces, depending on the size). * They are only roughly cleaned, not washed: the thin layer of soil/sand allows them to be stored for a longer period of time, which should be cool, dark and dry, for example in a clay pot Note: As the potato is a natural product and prepares for further propagation in spring, it forms small sprouts. You can simply flick these off by hand and the potato will go into winter dormancy again.
