Adopt a chicken from the flock of "Biohof Kapplermühle" farm in Bad Berleburg (Germany) and receive your coloured organic whole egg pasta at home. Christian will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. As the production coming from one chicken is big, the adoption is shared among various people. If you wish to have a bigger share, you may adopt more than once. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.
You adopt a chicken from our farm in Bad Berleburg (Germany). The livestock farming and the produce have both been certified as organic by the European Union as of 2022. Domestic fowl *(Gallus gallus domesticus*) originate from the Red Jungle fowl (*Gallus gallus*), a wild chicken breed from southeastern Asia. After being domesticated, the chicken spread across the entire world. Our feathered friends are of the NOVOGEN BROWN breed. The NOVOGEN BROWN is a brown chicken with white contour feathers, and which lays brown eggs. They are very adaptable and are characterised by their placid temperament and high egg output. Our chickens live in flocks on our Biokreis farm and are, of course, free-range. Right next door to us there are 8000 square metres of grassland with sandy bathing areas and shaded spots. This is what our animals' outdoor enclosure looks like. They themselves choose whether to head outdoors or stay in the pen (120 sq.m). To ensure that our ladies can stay outside safely and worry-free, they are guarded by two alpacas, who protect them from foxes and birds of prey. The animals can also enjoy a large, three-storey aviary. Here too, the chickens have ample space across three floors, and each of them has access to food and of course fresh water at all times. Our hens are distinguished by their excellent feed conversion and their hard-working nature. An adult hen lays an average of 270 eggs per year. A young hen will initially lay small eggs (size S) and, as she grows, her eggs will grow too (up to size L). The Biokreis company Huster raises our hens for us. We chose them because their chicks grow up in a caring, animal-friendly and green free-range environment. This philosophy is very important to us, but unfortunately it means a 200-kilometre transport route as there are currently no options to acquire hens with such an excellent upbringing in our local area. The animals' welfare is paramount for us. The young hens move in with us at 18 weeks old. We give them lots of time to get used to their new home, the stables, their aviary and the outdoor space. Four weeks later (at 22 weeks), the hens begin to lay eggs. Our girls are free to roam in the open air and can eat whatever they like on the meadows. We also give them organic feed, which we obtain from the Münsterland region. Our animals receive cereals, corn, soy flour and minerals. From the age of 18 months onwards, our hens don't lay as many eggs. After their productive lives they are taken to our farm's own butchers, they are slaughtered directly next to the barn and also processed there into stews, sausages, cold cuts and more. We set up the farm's own slaughterhouse to spare our animals a long trip and the associated stress at the end of their lives. Some of our hens' egg are sold fresh from the farm, at regional markets and in selected organic shops. The remaining eggs go into producing our pasta, which is still lovingly made by hand. The things we need in addition to the eggs come from the organic business Friesinger Mühle, a traditional family business (since 1856) that delivers superb durum wheat semolina in the very best organic quality. Your adoption produces an average of 270kg of organic whole eggs each season. With this amount we can produce around 60kg of coloured organic whole egg pasta. 4 CrowdFarmers will share the adoption, and each one will receive 15kg of coloured organic whole egg pasta. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.
During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 boxes. Once you paid the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. It contains durum wheat semolina and 35% egg, and is made by hand. Semolina, flour and eggs are mixed in large containers and kneaded in troughs with the addition of water. Once a consistent mass has formed, the dough is pressed through 'matrices' that give the pasta its shape. The high egg content (egg pasta usually contains 20% egg) gives it a special velvety-soft taste, a strong yellowish colour and a tender texture. The natural flavours for our coloured pasta are also supplied by the organic business Friesinger Mühle. Let your imagination run wild when cooking our pasta – the possibilities are endless! Our pasta is still currently packed in plastic bags, but we're striving to be able to pack it in plastic-free paper bags soon. All pasta can be kept for two years and should be stored dry. The ingredient list as well as allergen information can be downloaded from "Additional Analysis".
