What do you adopt?
Adopt a potatoe field (5,1m²) from our farm in Delbrück (Germany). Adopt 5,1 m² of our „Heiderot“-potato field, which we are managing on the basis of the EG-Öko-decree and the Bioland-standards since 2018 – we have finished the certification in autumn 2020. The variety Heiderot has its origin in the Lüneburger heather landscape (Lüneburger Heide) (Germany) and was approved as a new variety for potato cultivation in 2017. Heiderot is grown at a lower density than other potato varieties. Individual mother tubers form several shoots which have small 'Heiderots' growing. Interestingly, Heiderot is a particularly “fit” potato. It shows low susceptibility to the Potato stem mottle virus, scab and damage and high nematode resistance. 'Heiderot' is one of the most impressive and healthy varieties due to its intense red colouring. The 'Heiderot' potato is rather rare to find, as it is a new variety and the planting material is still very expensive. In a regular harvesting, we can harvest an average of 7,5 kg Heiderot-potatoes on your piece of field, this corresponds to about 65-85 single potatoes of about 110 g. We are managing all of our fields with persuasion and passion on the basis of the standards of the Bioland-organisation. Therefore our potatoes have never seen pesticides or mineral fertilisers in their life. They are growing in single potato ridges and subsist on our fertile arable land. For a good growing of the potato from the very beginning, we have cultivated clover on the field before. The clover has three effects: It accumulates nutrients (in particular nitrogen), which then introduce into the soil, it controls weeds and it serves as staple food for our cattle. In this year we are cultivating 1 hectare in total of the Heiderot-potato variety. This sums up to 1960.8 times 5.10 m² and an overall yield of 15 tons of potatoes, of which we can use 80 % as potatoes for human consumption. The 20 % not used for human consumption due to pressure marks or wireworms, are fed to our cattle. They love our potatoes just as much as you and us.
What will you receive?
Each season we will send you a box with: 7.5 kg __organic Heiderot potatoes__ (in 3 paper bags) Our potato variety "Heiderot" is waxy potatoe. Heiderot is anything but ordinary - it is the absolute eye-catcher! With its red skin and red flesh, Heiderot is the must-have for salads, gratin jacket potatoes and other popular potato dishes. A feast for the eyes. But it's not only the appearance that convinces, because with its aromatic, slightly buttery taste, it also convinces in terms of taste. "Heiderot" is the top model among potatoes and therefore something very exclusive for you! You can use it in many ways and store it particularly well; in cool, dry and dark storage up to half a year. Just let your imagination run wild when cooking and amaze your friends and relatives with the special look of our "Heiderot". __What is the best way to store stars like "Heiderot"?__ Potatoes are stored best in a cool, dark and lightly airy space between 4 °C und 10 °C. Please do not store apples, pears or plums near your potatoes to prevent the potatoes from germinating. If one potato looks a little different from the others or starts to germinate, you can still eat it. You only have to remove the affected areas, points or small seedlings. If your potato starts turning green or germinates too much, it wants to be planted and you should not be eating it any more.
When will you receive it?
Please, check the deadline for participating in this project (deadline for adoption) below. As of this date the Farmer will start preparing the orders that are to be shipped. You may select the delivery date of your box as suggested by the Farmer at check-out.
Why should you adopt?
* Learn who produces your food, how and where. Receive your food in a conscious manner. * Buy directly from the farmer. Help to generate wealth and better jobs in the rural areas. * Plan ahead and enable the Farmer to produce on demand. This way we can avoid overproduction and fight food waste. * Reward Farmers who make an effort to use environmentally-friendly packaging and cultivation techniques.

Marco Jostmeier
We are Marco, Tjorben and Tim from Bio Hof Marco Jostmeier from beautiful Delbrück. We build the passion for agriculture together, we love what we do. Our form of agriculture is the driving force of tomorrow’s agriculture. Marco in his mid twenties and farmer with heart and soul, hardly any farmer is as conscientious as he is. His love belongs to the cattle and the fields, even though the cattle shred his nerves from time to time. Marco always knew that he wanted to be a farmer, this is why he and his best friend Tim brought his great uncles’ farm, which was decommissioned for 15 years because they retired, back to life in 2015. Tim does what Marco does not like: the office. He classifies the receipts, executes payments, ensures that the orders run smoothly, establishes contacts and does whatever needs to be done in the office. Whenever there is a lot to be done on the fields, you can find him on the tractor. Step by step more life came back to the farm and the fields. In 2017 Marco’s partner Tjorben joined the team. He takes care of our marketing, social media and our homepage, which will be launched this year. Alongside he can be found on the tractor, tilling all day or caring for the animals. We have been three since then and developed new ideas and plans on how to improve our farm. It quickly became clear that the three of us want to farm in a more innovative way than the former generations. This is why we joined the Bioland-association in August 2018 and finished in August 2020 our conversion to ecological agriculture. This conversion brought a couple of other ideas on track, among other things to involve the consumer and to reduce the distance between producer and consumer. This is why we targeted to practice agriculture in a transparent and sustainable way and to market our products directly. We started off with friends and family, later with social media. Since there was huge interest in our products and its production and we were absolutely impressed by the interest, we wanted more! This is why we got to CrowdFarming. It creates an immediate connection between farmer and consumer and is besides highly innovative. Crowdfarming suits our farm really well and reflects the modern way of direct marketing in agriculture.

"We love talking about our agriculture and are very pleased, when we are able to inspire others. It wasn’t easy to skip one generation and bring it back to life being only 20 years old – but we wanted to make a difference and believe in what we are doing. A lot will change, but one thing is clear – we still need food in the future."

We are Marco, Tjorben and Tim from Bio Hof Marco Jostmeier from beautiful Delbrück. Together we are managing about 50 hectares, provide more than 75 cows with our own feed, shear our three sheep and alpacas and want to practice modern and sustainable biological agriculture. We got to agriculture in various ways. We love what we are doing! Our farm is an idyllic place – the former generations (Marco’s great uncle’s family and their ancestors) already loved living on the farm and farm the fields. Beautiful Delbrück is not only our home, but also to our cattle. They are held and fed on the pasture for at least 200 days a year. They are the secret stars next to our alpacas and sheep on the farm. Cyclists and cars are stopping every day to take photos or simply observe how they are hiding in the shades and doze. We do what we do with passion! We are practicing sustainable and modern agriculture by fullest conviction. We only want to take from nature what we’re giving it back at another point. Therefore we are farming in closed circuits and promoting biodiversity. We are farming all of our fields in a sustainable way and are working with nature. Our soil contains many treasures for us, if only we deal with it properly. This is why we are pursuing the target of doing something good for our soil every day. We attach great importance to crop rotation. Crop rotation means something like a farming-plan or an allocation plan: This plan defines what is cultivated on each field – and what is coming the year after! Nutrient supply, disease and pest pressure, weed abundance, soil structure and humus content are impacted by crop rotation. Special significance is attached to preventing crop rotational deficiency symptoms and diseases. Therefore you have to respect classical, old crop rotation patterns, which partly fell into oblivion due to traditional management and simpler crop rotation patterns. Crop rotation makes reacting to market fluctuations, weather conditions or current issues, just as weed abundance, in a suitable and ecological way possible. This is why we only use mechanical weed control methods and regulate it via crop rotation. Therefore we save on expensive sprays and obtain a healthy soil structure. Thereby we conserve and preserve natural habitats. Our way of managing agriculture stands for active protection of air, water and soil. At the moment, we don’t need expensive watering, since our potatoes get along with the current, natural rainfalls. Our fields are really diverse. Next to potatoes, grains and peas, we also cultivate various green manures, broad beans and corn. We back diversity and try working mostly like a natural ecosystem. For example like a forest: The trees drop their leaves in autumn. Earthworm, springtails and microorganisms process these to valuable continuous humus and subsequently into nutrients that are available for plants. Therefore there are enough nutrients for the trees to build new leaves the next spring. Just as in the forest, we also need to fertilise our soil. This is where our cattle’s manure comes into play. We bring this to our fields, to restore the nutrient supplies of our soil. Another aspect is regenerative farming. This contains measures to activate and strengthen the soil consistency and humus enrichment. An important point is greening of the fields throughout the whole of the year, which is guaranteed by the nurse crop of main fruits like grains or corn. Also catch crop cultivation serves as an important tool in extending land covering. All of our animals benefit from our cultivated fruits. About 2/3 of our feed is from our own production. We receive the rest of the feed from our regional cooperating farm. We keep our animals appropriate and assume responsibility for our farm animals, from earthworms to cattle, from bee to sheep or alpaca. Each and every one of them deserves to be treated with respect. This is why we count on pasture grazing in small groups, so that every animal has enough space. Our cattle even get potatoes. They like the potatoes with pressure marks or the ones already germinating better than we do. We care about a preferably hassle-free slaughtering of our cattle, this is why they are slaughtered in our region so that there is no need for long rides for them. We pursue the target of enhancing transparency of agriculture and a close exchange with our consumers, therefore we gladly answer all questions and like to welcome guests to our farm.
