The project

Adopt an orange tree from the farm "Bio Agrumi Monasteri" in Floridia SR (Italy) and receive your harvest in the form of organic oranges at home. Angelo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

Adopt an orange tree that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2000. During the process of adoption you can choose a name that we will engrave on a plaque and hang on your tree. We have been growing citrus fruits in these areas for over 40 years and we are still a family-run farm with me, Valeria, my wife, Renato and Sara, my two children who live and work in the farm with me. The Valencia and Navel oranges are typical oranges grown in the Siracusa area not far from the sea. Our farm is, in fact, at around 120 m above sea level, which makes it an ideal altitude to grow these citrus. The productive life of an orange tree is around 30 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your orange tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from other trees. Each orange tree bears an average of 80kg per season.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 boxes. Once you paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format: __10kg box of oranges__ * Navelinas (December-mid-February): They have a small prominent navel, an oval shape, and are very juicy * Valencia orange (mid-February until beginning of May): has an intense orange colour, may present seeds inside, has a slightly sour taste * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming seal since 2000 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * We do not store the fruit in cold chambers, they go directly from the tree to your doorstep * One kilo contains between 7 and 9 fruits (the box contains between 70 and 90 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2-3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

When will you receive it?

The Farmer will collect your harvest on demand and just before shipment so you will receive it fresh and without post-harvest treatment (no waxes, no preservatives). The shipping for Navel oranges starts in November. The shipping for Valencia oranges starts in February.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
