The project

Adopt a clementine tree from the farm "Barranc de Llop" in Antella (Spain) and receive your harvest in the form of organic clementines at home. Arantza will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you received your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

Adopt a clementine tree that we cultivate following the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2021. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your clementine tree. The clementine is a medium-sized tree, naturally open and with medium productivity. We cultivate three different varieties at Barranca: __Oronules__, __Esbal__ and __Clemenules__. All come from a mutation of the Algerian clementine, the first known variety of the fruit. These mutations have been spontaneous, i.e. natural, as a result of changes in some genes that modified the original characteristics of the Algerian clementine. We planted them in 2017, and since then we have been following an organic cultivation process. Our farm is certified by the GlobalGAP Good Agricultural Practices protocol, which guarantees the food safety of our clementines and the use of environmentally friendly agricultural practices. What's more, we comply with the SPRING standard, which shows our commitment to sustainable water management. We also obtained the ECOVALIA social certification to further prove ethical workplace practices on our farms. The productive life of a clementine tree is around 25 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your clementine tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. A clementine tree from our farm produces an average of 60kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 12 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __5 kg box of organic clementines__ * Oronules (November): small, orangey-red in color, with few seeds and a soft, easy-to-peel skin. A balanced flavor, between sweet and bitter, with juicy segments * Esbal (November): medium size and intense orange color, with hardly any seeds and easy to peel. High juice content and balanced taste between bitter and sweet * Clemenules (November-January): medium size, seedless and easy to peel. Sweet flavor and a high juice content, and segments with a pleasant texture * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2021 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * One kilo contains between 8 and 10 fruits (the box contains between 40 and 50 fruits depending on the size) * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 2 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge)

When will you receive it?

You'll receive your clementines from the first fortnight of November until the end of January.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
