The project

Adopt an orange tree from the farm "Azienda Agricola Fausto Quintieri" in Cosenza (Italy) and receive your harvest in the form of organic oranges at home. Nicola will take care of your adoption and take its picture. Also, you will be able to download the adoption certificate and, if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: once you receive your harvest and you enjoyed the experience, you may decide to renew and extend the adoption.

What do you adopt?

Adopt an orange tree that we cultivate under the Organic Farming regulations of the European Union since 2017. During the process of adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your orange tree. The Ovale Calabrese is a blonde orange variety originating from Calabria (a region of southern Italy). The most common theory is that it originated from a mutation of the classic blonde pulp varieties (e.g. Valencia). Today it is mainly cultivated there but also in Sicily. The plant is aesthetically very similar to other varieties of blonde oranges, and the only difference is a lower productivity and a later ripening. Our oranges are prepared for shipping immediately after picking and, in accordance with the rules of organic agriculture as well as our company's philosophy, they do not undergo any kind of treatment before the shipping. The productive life of an orange tree is around 75 years. For as long as you want to keep it and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew your adoption year after year. If your orange tree dies, we will replace it with no additional cost and assuring the delivery of your harvest from others. A orange tree from our farm produces an average of 70kg each season. You do not have to commit to the consumption of the whole harvest. Each season you may decide what quantity to reserve and pay the maintenance in accordance with the amount you reserve. This way you will only pay for what you consume and we can plan and sell the remaining harvest amount to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve on the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 3 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __Box of 10kg of Ovale Calabrese oranges__ * Ovale Calabrese oranges (from mid-April to early May): bright yellow-orange in colour, with a sweet taste and few seeds, the fruits, unlike other blonde oranges, are oval in shape and the skin is thin * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2017 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * The box includes some extra fruits, in case some of them arrive damaged * One kilo contains between 4 and 6 fruits (the box contains between 40 and 60 fruits depending on the size) * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * If you keep them in a fresh and airy place, they can last 4 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the fridge) You can eat oranges as fresh fruit or use them to make a salad, cake, jam or juice. As they are untreated, you can also use the peel in your recipes.

When will you receive it?

The Ovale Calabrese is a late-maturing orange variety and stays on the tree until the beginning of spring. For this reason, we will ship it by mid-April and the beginning of May.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
