The project

Adopt 20m² of an asparagus field from "Azienda Agricola Carbone Luciano" in Foggia (Italy) and receive your organic green asparagus at home. Luciano will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt 20m² of an asparagus field from our farm in Foggia (Italy). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union since 2006. Asparagus is the main crop on our farm and, in fact, is grown on almost 50% of our farm. The first information about this vegetable dates back almost 2.000 years to ancient Mesopotamia. From there they subsequently spread throughout the Mediterranean Sea area. Asparagus belongs to the *Asparagaceae* family and is one of the few edible plants in this family. The shoots can be of various colours, depending on the variety. The most common are green, but they can also be white or purple. The variety of asparagus we grow is called Grande. It is a variety that originates in the United States and produces green shoots that are perfectly suited to the climatic conditions of southern Italy. The asparagus field has a cycle of 7 years and develops with constant and dedicated work. It develops from the planting of stalks, called asparagus shoots, and culminates, after a few years of work, with the delicate but determined emergence of the shoots. A very exciting moment! Your asparagus field produces an average of 11.5kg of organic green asparagus each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During harvest season you can progressively receive the quantity of harvest that you reserve at the moment of adoption. You will be able to receive a minimum of 2 boxes, which can be increased up to 5 boxes according to your needs. Shipping format: __2,3 kg box of organic green asparagus__ * Grande: green asparagus, smooth shoots, with a perfectly closed tip and a diameter of 5 to 16 millimetres; it has a sweet but pronounced flavour, they hold up well to cooking and are excellent to roast or boil and then season with oil and salt * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming label since 2006 * Harvest on request, shipped without wax or preservative treatments in a cardboard box without plastics * One kilo contains between 40 and 45 asparagus (the box contains between 92 and 103 pieces depending on the size) * If you keep them in the fridge, they can last up to 10 days in good condition

When will you receive it?

Asparagus is harvested daily in the spring, between April and May.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
