The project

Adopt an orange tree from the "Arancebio" farm in Francofonte (Italy) and receive your organic Cara Cara oranges at home. Danilo will take care of your adoption and take its picture. You will also be able to download the adoption certificate, and if you wish, plan your visit to the farm. You do not enter into any long-term commitment: Although your adoption will be renewed automatically, you will always be informed in advance and may decide to cancel your adoption at any time as long as the preparation has not yet begun.

What do you adopt?

You adopt an orange tree from our farm in Francofonte (Italy). The cultivation here is certified as organic by the European Union as of 2014. When placing the adoption you can choose a name which we will use to identify your orange tree. We have been growing the navel 'Cara cara' variety on our farm for a few years. Its special feature is its red flesh. Unlike in blood oranges, where the pigmentation is due to anthocyanins, in Cara cara oranges the pigmentation is due to carotenoids. Cara cara navel plants are between 2 and 3 metres tall, do not shed their leaves during the winter and have a deep green foliage. This variety is believed to have developed as a spontaneous bud mutation on a Washington navel orange tree and was discovered at the Hacienda Caracara in Valencia (Venezuela) in 1976. Cara cara oranges have never attracted much commercial interest and have remained a niche product. Our Cara cara navel oranges are grown under a strict regime that respects organic farming standards. This is in line with our philosophy and our desire to protect and maintain a healthy and clean natural environment without the use of pesticides or other synthetic plant protection products. The end product is a natural fruit that can be safely consumed. Your adoption is 3 years old and its maximum lifespan is 50 years. For as long as you want to keep your adoption, and we can continue taking care of it, you can renew year after year. If your adoption stops producing for any reason, we will replace it with another, and guarantee you the delivery from the production of other units. By adopting an orange tree you can receive up to 70kg of organic Cara Cara oranges each season. You do not have to commit to ordering the entire harvest though. Each season you can decide how much you want to reserve, and you pay the maintenance cost according to that amount. This way you only pay for what you plan to consume, and we can offer any surplus harvest to others.

What will you receive?

During the season, you will be able to receive the harvest that you are reserving now: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 boxes. Once you have paid for the adoption, you will be able to plan your shipments from your user account. Shipping format:__ 7 kg box of organic oranges__ * Cara Cara navel (January - mid-February): has a small, oval-shaped navel, is very juicy, easy to peel, and has a balanced flavour that is both sweet and tart * Organic farming certified by the European Organic Farming Label since 2004 * Harvested on request, delivered without wax or preservative treatment in a plastic-free cardboard box * We do not keep the fruit in cold storage, it goes straight from the tree to your doorstep * Our trees are not a screw factory: each fruit is unique in appearance and size * 1 kg contains between 5 and 8 pieces * If you store them in a cool, ventilated place, they can last up to 3 weeks in good condition (if you want them to last longer, you can keep them in the refrigerator) * Inside the box you will find oranges of various sizes: the smaller fruits are suitable for juicing or making jam while the larger ones are good for eating straight away

When will you receive it?

The Cara Cara navel variety ripens in January and we will ship it between January and February.

Why should you adopt?
Know who, how and where your food is produced. Source your food in a conscious, direct and consistent manner.
Buying without intermediaries allows the producer to obtain better prices. This helps generate better jobs and social standards in rural areas.
When you adopt something, you allow the producer to ensure the sale at a fixed price and to produce on demand. This also avoids wasting food that is grown without being sold.
It supports producers who strive for environmentally friendly packaging and cultivation practices.
